Investigation

The team arrived at the location at approximately 9pm.  As had been previously discussed with the clients, the two older children were out of the home, and the husband took the youngest child out. The wife remained behind. The team split up into groups of two and three and worked in relays of 20-30 minutes each to provide a thorough investigation of the entire home. While each team was inside, the rest of the team waited outside.  Each team had a walkie-talkie in case there was a need for communication with the group waiting outside.

Results

In the youngest child’s room, we did get some small spikes on our EMF detector near the corner of the bed that we could not replicate. However, we did not capture any audio or video to validate that. We did notice that the child plays video games – one of which is the newest Black Ops video game. This is an extremely violent and graphic game that is not suitable for children of his age. Christine, the team’s child behaviorist, suggested that such stimulation be curbed at least an hour before the child goes to bed. She also suggested doing this for a couple of weeks to see if the issues the child has been experiencing there might ease up.

In the oldest child’s room, which is in the basement, we discovered several stacks of horror movies and books. We discovered a similarity between the claims being made and the story lines in some of the books and movies.  We also discovered shadow-play occurring in the room directly opposite the bedroom, and we were able to determine that this is the cause for the claims of seeing shadows in the hallway.

In the middle child’s bedroom, we found what we can only describe as an expression of emotional conflict.  There were a variety of pictures expressing both positive and negative thought processes. For example, one picture had the quotation “Live, love, laugh” all around the frame, while a hand-drawn picture on the door showed the movie character Freddie appearing to smile as he was either killing or had already killed.  The only way we can describe this room is to say it was somewhat unsettling.  However, the middle child is a pre-teen and this type of internal conflict is normal.

At no time did we capture any kind of audio or video data to validate any of the clients’ claims.

Conclusion

The Forest Lawn district is one in which there have been many documented deaths. We did not capture any audio or video data to validate our clients’ experiences, but we were able to determine that most of the events being experienced by the clients can be attributed to sound traveling through the floors and walls, to the way light moves through the windows in the basement, and to the types of books and movies they are interested in.  Thus, we have deemed this case to be closed, and the location itself as “not active”.

We want to extend our thanks and appreciation to the family for inviting us into their home, for their hospitality, for their patience during our investigation, and for their very generous monetary gift.  We wish them the very best and we hope things settle down for them.

Date:  Feb. 19, 2016 – preliminary investigation

Location: Local private residence, Forest Lawn area

Claims: hearing voices, electronics turning on and off by themselves, unexplained noises, seeing shadow figures, physical contact (feeling pressure of someone laying on top of one of the clients)

Investigators:  Holly and Christine

Historical Background

The area of Forest Lawn was first settled in the early 1900’s.  On July 4, 1934, along with the adjacent Albert Park area, Forest Lawn was incorporated as a village.  On Aug. 1, 1935, Albert Park and Forest Lawn amalgamated under the name of The Village of Forest Lawn.  Then, in 1952, it became incorporated as the Town of Forest Lawn.  In Dec. of 1961, the area was officially annexed to the City of Calgary.

Over the years, the Forest Lawn area has become known for gang activity, drugs, prostitution, and many, many deaths – some by natural causes, some accidental, and some by murder.  Because of the ongoing high-crime rate in this area, Forest Lawn has a palpable and persistent aura of negative energy.

The Interviews

The first interview was conducted with the client, who told us that she began noticing unusual and unexplained activity in 2004 – approximately one year after moving into the home. She stated that the oldest child was suffering from nightmares and was refusing to sleep in their room; she also shared that she offered the child the typical response, which was that they were just having bad dreams, it was just their imagination playing tricks on them, and etc.

The client then shared with us that the activity appeared to increase when their second child was born, and that it became obvious when that child reached about one year of age. The client stated that the child began suffering from night terrors, and would often “scream and scream and scream”.  The client further added that the child would sometimes be found hiding under their bed or in a corner of the room, and that this escalated to a degree where the client felt there was no option other than to move the child’s bed into her and her husband’s bedroom.

The second interview was conducted with the oldest minor child, who is 16 years of age.  The minor child shared with us that an apparition the child says is named “Cody” has appeared more than once.  The minor child also stated there is something wrong with the shoulder, and that this entity is wearing a green sweater every time it’s seen.  The minor child also informed us that another, much darker presence has been seen and felt on more than one occasion.  In one instance, the minor child told us that a very heavy presence was felt laying on top of the child, making breathing very difficult, and movement all but impossible.  The child stated that the only thing they could think of at that moment was how to not make the entity angry.  The minor child also shared that they have been experiencing these events intermittently for a number of years, and that when the child was a few years younger, they drew a picture of the entity.  The child stated that they no longer sleep in their basement bedroom, but now, they sleep in their younger sibling’s room.  The child stated that this is because they are afraid to be alone in the basement any more.

The third interview was conducted with the middle child, who is 12 or 13 years of age.  The child appeared to be unwilling to talk about what they have experienced in the past, or what they have been experiencing recently.  Based on what little we were able to encourage the child to share with us, there appears to be little to no activity occurring for them.

The fourth interview was conducted with the youngest child, who is 8 years of age.  The child stated that they don’t like to sleep in their room because they keep hearing noises they can’t identify and they feel like someone is in their closet. The child said it’s “very scary” and it’s hard to sleep.

The final interview was conducted with the client’s spouse, who stated that he was skeptical that anything unusual was occurring. He was certain there was a logical explanation for the claims being made. He also stated that he has owned the home for about 20 years, but while he did not experience any unusual occurrences, people who stayed in the home – either visitors or renters of the basement suite – reported activity. He added that it was only recently that he had a couple of experiences he could not explain. The first instance was the middle of the night and everyone was sleeping; he was in the kitchen, and he heard someone call his name.  The second instance was two days before we arrived; he said he saw a shadow figure in the hallway that made him jump. He checked to see if one of the children was up, but found them all sleeping. The husband also stated that while sleeping in the youngest child’s room, he was awakened twice by someone touching him.

After finishing the interviews, we conducted a full EMF sweep of the entire home.  No unusual spikes or high levels of EM were detected anywhere in the home.  All levels were within normal ranges.  The investigation was set for Mar. 6, 2016.  Details and results will be provided after data has been reviewed and analyzed and we have met with our clients to go over our findings.

Date: Jan. 28, 2016, Case #001

Location:  Private Residence, Kelowna, BC

Investigators:  Robyn, Pat, Madison, Lisa

Case Status:  closed

The Investigation

The investigators arrived at the client’s home at approximately 8:00 pm. The client remained at the premises and the downstairs tenants were home. The roommate had moved out at this time and her bedroom was more or less empty of possessions.

Investigators Madison and Lisa were introduced to the client. Then, a walk-through of the premises was conducted to familiarize them with the house. The team did not have access to investigate the basement apartment, but the tenants did give permission to set up a video camera in the area where a claim of an apparition was seen. After setting up the camera, the investigators headed back upstairs to begin the investigation.

As most claims were localized to the kitchen and roommate’s bedroom, the investigators concentrated their efforts in those locations. The client remained in the living room for the duration of the investigation. Robyn and Lisa went to the bedroom to conduct an evp session and tried to elicit a response on the EMF detector. Pat and Madison remained in the kitchen and conducted an evp session of their own. After about forty-five minutes, the two teams switched locations.  Pat and Madison went to the bedroom while Robyn and Lisa went to the kitchen.

After completing these sessions, the investigators returned to the living room to discuss with the client whether the roommate’s moving out created any new experiences. At this time Pat and Lisa returned to the bedroom to conduct a spirit box session. The client stated that since the move things had been really quiet, other than one instance of noises at night. Another spirit box session was held in the living room at the request of the client.

The investigation was wrapped at 11:00 pm. At this time, both Robyn and Pat remarked that the location felt very different – it felt quiet and calm – from  the preliminary investigation.

Conclusion

This home is very small, with paper-thin interior and exterior walls.  Contamination from outside noise was also a problem. Careful review and analysis of all audio and video data yielded no evidence to validate the client’s claims, most of which seemed to be centered around the now-former roommate. The roommate recently lost her husband; the client has reported that since the roommate moved out, no further activity has occurred.  Thus, it is our opinion that the roommate may have been unconsciously creating the occurrences as a means of coping with the tragic death of her husband.  The client has validated this opinion, and thus, we have closed this case.

On behalf of the entire Okanagan team, we extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to our client and to the downstairs tenants for their patience and hospitality.
