Location:  Private residence, Airdre

Claims: objects being moved, hearing voices, feeling unexplained physical pressure, experiencing uncharacteristic mood swings, feeling watched, seeing shadow figures

Investigators: Holly, Christine, Shae, Paul

Background

The city of Airdre, Alberta has something of a dark history. From 1995 to 1999, 14 teenagers committed suicide. Though no public explanation was ever provided, there was heavy speculation that a cult was at work. We found no proof to support this, but we remain open-minded to the possibility, as each suicide was found to be connected to a song by the Goo-Goo Dolls, called “Iris”.

The location being investigated is a recently-renovated 1970’s detached home with 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a large patio attached to the kitchen, and a large, detached garage. Two adults and two children – a girl, 9, and a boy, 13 – currently rent the home. The primary renter has a bedroom in the basement; the secondary renter – and parent of the two children – has a bedroom on the main floor, as does the girl. The boy has the entire recreation area in the basement as his bedroom and living space. There are also 2 large dogs.

During our preliminary interview, the secondary renter revealed that the ashes of a deceased relative are kept on a high cupboard in the kitchen area. According to them, the deceased relative was not a nice person in life. Both clients also told us that they each have been coping with a great deal of stressful change, and that they only moved into the home at the end of December, 2014. When asked about when the activity began, they told us it started approximately two weeks after they moved in. They also revealed to us that in September, 2014, their next-door neighbor committed suicide. We did some research on this, and we were able to verify that this event did occur.

With parental consent, we interviewed the children. According to the girl, pictures on her dresser get turned over, the bottom drawer on her bedside table has been repeatedly pulled open, and one of her dolls has often been moved. The girl says these incidents have occurred when no one is home.

The boy claims to have seen the shadow of a very large head on the outside of the furnace-room door. He says this only occurred once, but generally, he often feels uneasy and watched, and he can’t sleep without having a light on. We attempted to replicate a shadow crossing the door, but our efforts were unsuccessful.

We also conducted a full EMF sweep, beginning with the main floor and ending in the basement. Except for the furnace, which had an EMF output exceeding 25 mg, all readings were within normal ranges, including those on the appliances, outlets, light fixtures, and electronics.

Personal Experiences

During the preliminary visit, both Holly and Christine experienced sensations of being watched, an unusual heaviness, and general uneasiness in all areas of the home. Christine said that while she was making her way to the basement to conduct the EMF sweep, she heard a disembodied male voice. She said that although she could not identify what was said, the voice itself was quite loud. There were no males in the home at the time this occurred, nor was anyone – male or female – outside.

When the interview was finished and they were in the car, both Holly and Christine experienced a strong sensation that they were not alone in the vehicle. This sensation remained throughout the duration of the trip back to Holly’s home. After Christine left and Holly was gathering up equipment from the car, Holly discovered her equipment bag was missing. She realized it had been left at the home of the client. Holly called the client to request permission to come back and pick it up. The client consented. When Holly left the client’s home again, the earlier sensation of being followed was no longer present.

Investigation #1

On Feb. 7, 2015, Holly, Christine, and Paul conducted the first of what would be two investigations. When we arrived, we found the clients had a male friend visiting from out of town. The primary client told us he had been staying with them for approximately one week. To our dismay, the man appeared to be quite intoxicated, and verbally combative and aggressive about what he referred to as “the ghost”.  He repeatedly taunted and provoked “the ghost” despite our requests not to do that.  We also asked him to please try to be quiet while we worked, so that noise contamination would be minimized.

This was not an ideal situation in which to conduct an investigation. Had this location been local, arrangements would have been made with the client to return when their friend had either returned to his own home, or he was in a calmer state. However, the location is almost an hour out of town, so after discussing the matter, the team made the decision to go ahead with the investigation and hope for the best. The clients tried very hard to comply with our request for quiet when Christine went downstairs to begin the investigation. Holly and Paul remained upstairs with the clients to help them with their visiting friend.

Christine investigated the recreation area first.  There were fluctuations on the EMF meter, but this was eventually found to occur as a result of the furnace coming on and then, shutting off. No unusual physical or vocal anomalies were captured on either audio or video.

The session lasted approximately 15 minutes.  Holly and Paul then went downstairs to investigate while Christine stayed upstairs with the clients.

During their investigation of the recreation area, both Holly and Paul began experiencing sensations of intense physical pressure on their heads and necks, as well as an increasing sense of negative energy in the form of anger they could not explain or counter. They also experienced a sudden hypersensitivity to sound – possibly resulting from the intensifying headaches they were struggling to cope with – and they became short-tempered almost to the point of fighting with each other. At this point, they both heard the client’s male friend provoking and taunting what he referred to as “the ghost” and saying he wasn’t afraid of it or anything else. They also heard Christine and the clients trying – unsuccessfully – to deal with the situation and to get the man to quiet down.

Due to this, as well as to the intensity of the physical pressure they were experiencing, Holly and Paul decided to end the EVP session in the basement and rejoin the group upstairs, in the kitchen.

The team worked to deal with the situation with the primary client’s friend for approximately 15 minutes later, after which time the man was calmer and decided to go to bed. At that time, we decided to take a break outside and discuss the situation and what our next course of action should be. It was decided that we would conduct a ghost-box session in the kitchen, with the client, and then wrap the investigation.

The client was open to the use of the ghost box. The session lasted approximately 15 minutes. During the session, we received some interesting potential responses. When the session was completed, we all felt that a return investigation was required, and that Shae, our Occult Specialist, needed to attend. We discussed this with the client and booked the return investigation for the following week.

Investigation #2

Attending investigators: Holly, Christine, Shae, Paul

When we arrived at the client’s home, Holly and Christine noticed a tangible difference in the home’s atmosphere. Where it had been intense, uncomfortable, heavy, and oppressive on the first visit, this time, we felt an unusual and inexplicable sense of silence punctuated by a sense of being observed.

Unlike the first investigation, all four investigators stayed together throughout this second investigation.  As the investigation progressed, the sense of observation and silence persisted. Shae stated that he was picking up on the presence of a male energy, and it was hiding from him. He added that this usually happens when he enters a location. Holly, Christine, and Paul noted that they were not experiencing the physical sensations they had experienced during the first investigation.

The investigators spent approximately two and a half hours in the home before making the decision to wrap the investigation and then speak with the client. No vocal, sound, or visual anomalies were captured.

Conclusion

After analyzing the data and taking into account the discussions we had with the client, the conclusion we have reached about this situation is that some of the activity can be attributed to the children. It is well-documented that spirit energy is attracted to children who are sensitive and/or who are going through puberty. Since this is the case with the children living in the home, suggestions were offered to the client about ways to address those events when they occur.

While we do feel the activity is related to living humans, we do not believe this is a poltergeist situation.  The standard characteristics of a poltergeist were not present, either in the claims being made, or during both of the investigations.  We cannot explain the physical experiences we had during the first investigation, nor can we explain why those events did not occur at the second investigation. But we can say with certainty that whoever may be visiting the home is not harmful.

After reviewing all the data from both investigations, and taking into account the personal information the client shared with us, we are deeming the location as not haunted and closing the file. However, we have reassured the client that if the activity either resumes or intensifies, we will be there to help them.

We extend our thanks and appreciation to our clients for inviting us into their home, and for trying to help us help them.  We wish them well and hope they are able to go forward in peace.

Conclusions:

On Sunday, Dec. 2, we were finally able to meet with our clients.  Robyn and Holly shared the team’s findings with the clients while Shae conducted a complete house cleansing.  We were happy to learn that in the time since our investigation, the activity had dramatically decreased; both the mother and the grandmother had only one or two incidents to report.  This was very good news, and we encouraged the grandmother to continue taking ownership of her home and enforcing that claim as often and as firmly as she feels she needs to.

During our preliminary investigation, we found that the entire home is being bombarded with extremely high EMF levels.  In more than one area, the levels were so high they all but buried the needles on the detectors.  Careful examination of the areas where these levels are very high showed that a “fear cage” effect is occurring in various areas of the home – including in the child’s bedroom.  The laundry area in the basement is directly below the child’s bedroom.  The appliances in that laundry area are emitting extremely high levels of electromagnetic energy, bombarding everything within a four-foot radius – including the child’s bedroom. We have encouraged our clients to address those issues as soon as possible, as prolonged exposure to such high EMF levels can be dangerous.

Where the child’s behavior is concerned, it is our opinion that he is a normal toddler.  We know that toddlers often talk to themselves, their toys, and even to people we can’t see.  Because the child in this case is the only child in the home, we encouraged our clients to consider engaging him more often by inviting him to help with dishes or meals or other small things.  This will not only minimize his exposure to the high EM energy being emitted by the television, it will also make him feel more visible to the adults around him and less inclined to act out to get attention.

During our evening investigation, some of the team members did report the sensation of being touched and feeling the presence of someone watching them.  Unfortunately, we cannot attribute these experiences to anything paranormal because the EMF levels in the home are so high.

At this time, because of the high levels of electromagnetic energy bombarding the entire home, we are unable to either confirm or deny the presence of either residual or intelligent paranormal phenomena.  However, Shae has provided our clients with the tools they need to keep their home free of any negative energies, and the knowledge to maintain that freedom.  We were also able to provide them with information about EMF and the effects it can have, as well as some suggestions about how to minimize and/or greatly reduce the amount of electromagnetic energy being emitted.  We encouraged them to learn more about EMF and its effects so they can become more proactive about taking control of both their home and their lives.

We want to extend our thanks to our clients for welcoming us into their home, for providing us with overnight accommodation, and for sharing their time and energy during the interview process as well as the investigation itself.   We especially appreciate their generosity in keeping us supplied with coffee during the investigation. We also extend our appreciation to them for taking part in the investigation; active participation creates a sense of empowerment, and we fully support and encourage that.  If further activity should occur in spite of the house cleansing Shae performed, we will return for a follow-up investigation.

On Sept. 28,  the team went to a private residence out of town to help a family in crisis.  Among other things, the family shared that their toddler is being tormented by something they cannot see or hear.  The family also shared that unexplained events have been occurring in their home since they first took possession of it 11 years earlier.  The reason they called us, they said, was because an unexplained male voice was captured on a family member’s cellular phone during a video recording of the toddler.

Present during this investigation were Robyn, Trevor, Holly, and new team member TJ.  Also present were the clients:  The grandmother and grandfather of the child, and the child’s mother.

The claims are as follows:

— child exhibits extremely negative, aggressive behavior for no apparent reason, at random times

— child’s mother caressed from the neck to the hand, and feeling hot breath on her neck at the same time

— toys requiring physical touch turning on by themselves

— loud, unexplained bangs from within the home

— footsteps moving up the stairs and/or down the hallway

— grandmother’s voice – including distinct inflections – mimicked by a voice through the child’s baby monitor

— full-bodied shadow apparitions seen by all family members

— unusual cold spots in the child’s bedroom

The clients are deeply concerned for the child.  The clients shared that the child had to be moved from the basement bedroom to the upstairs bedroom because the child was terrified to sleep downstairs.  Each family member interviewed shared the same experiences with the child when it comes to bedtime:  sometimes, the child goes to bed without a fuss; other times, the child screams in terror and repeatedly cries out, “No!”  On several of those occasions, the clients shared that the child suddenly becomes physically violent, slapping or even punching whomever is trying to calm the child down.

The Preliminary Investigation

The team arrived at the client’s home just after 1pm.  While Holly and Trevor conducted the interviews with each adult family member, Robyn and TJ began their walk-through of the home to take base readings, note any potential causes for the activity, and photograph all areas claimed to exhibit unusual tendencies, such as cold spots.   The findings of the base readings were that there are extremely high levels of EMF coming from several large appliances in the basement.  There are also power lines running directly from the line poles to the home itself.  There are also two satellite dishes – one on the side of the home, and one on the side of the neighbor’s home.  The dishes face each other almost directly.

The home was constructed in 1966.  Further research into what existed on the land prior to that development is being conducted, but to our knowledge, the area was predominantly used for farming and ranching.  From the time the home was built, until the clients bought the home in 2002, no deaths occurred in the home itself.

The clients shared that within the first couple of months after moving into the home, activity began to occur.  They shared that it was just small things that were happening – such as items going missing – but that they attributed those events to their own error.   Approximately two years later, when they began to renovate the home, the frequency of unusual activity began to increase.  However, they explained that the events were harmless in nature, so they didn’t pay any attention to them.  The clients shared that this has continued for the past eight years, and that it wasn’t until the grandmother inadvertently captured an unexplained, masculine voice on her cell phone while making a video recording of her grandchild that she became truly frightened.

During our interview with the child’s grandfather, he became visibly emotional and asked us to stop filming.  He shared that while most of the events have seemed to focus mainly around his wife, daughter, and grandchild, he has experienced the odd incident – the most notable being that his hammer was physically removed from where he had put it, and it has not been seen since.  He also shared that he has seen a full-bodied shadow apparition at least twice, and that he has heard his kitchen chair being pulled away from the table – and when he turned around from the sink to talk to who he thought at first was his wife, the chair was pulled out, but no one was there.  He was alone.

The child’s mother shared with us that several unusual events have occurred in the home since her parents purchased it.  She shared that most recently, she was downstairs doing laundry, when she suddenly felt hot breath on the side of her neck, and then a hand caressing her from her neck all the way down her shoulder to her hand.  She shared that she has seen a full-bodied apparition in the upstairs hall on at least two different occasions, and on several different occasions, she has heard voices in the upstairs hall, as well as in the basement.  No one was home at the time, and the television was either turned off, or at a volume too low to be heard without being present in the room where it sits.

After completing our preliminary investigation, which included taking base readings and photographs to be used for comparison during the data review and analysis to come, the team left the clients’ home to discuss a plan of action.

The Investigation

The team returned to the clients’ home at approximately 8:30pm.  Because the home is small, it was decided that Trevor and TJ would start the investigation downstairs, while Robyn and Holly spoke quietly with the clients upstairs.  Robyn placed a voice recorder in the child’s bedroom; it would remain there for the duration of the investigation.

Trevor and TJ spent approximately 20 minutes in the basement.  Upon their return, Robyn and TJ went into the child’s room to conduct an evp session, while Trevor and Holly continued to talk with the clients.  Robyn and TJ spent approximately 10 minutes in the child’s room before deciding to end the session and join the rest of the team in the dining area.

After meeting in the dining area, the team split up again.  Trevor and TJ left the home to investigate further the exterior of the property, while Robyn and Holly conducted an evp session in the basement.   The session lasted approximately half an hour.  Everyone met again in the dining area, and the entire team decided at that point to take a quick break outside and discuss what the next course of action should be.  During the time the team was outside, the child was put to bed.

When the team returned approximately 15 minutes later – and with the clients’ agreement – the entire team, as well as the clients, came together in the living room area and prepared to conduct an evp session.  Toys the clients had claimed went off on their own were put on the floor, along with the K-II meter and the MEL meter.  Robyn filmed the session, which lasted for approximately one hour.  During the session, every conceivable method of encouraging communication was made, including mild provoking from family members, and two team members.  Several times during the session, the grandmother experienced coldness on her arm; this was noted on the MEL meter, which did register a mild fluctuation in the ambient temperature.

The investigation was wrapped up just after midnight.  The team encouraged the clients to set rules, boundaries, and limitations, and to give only positive energies out whenever they heard, saw, or felt anything they couldn’t identify.  Trevor requested that one of the objects downstairs – a replica suit of armor purchased at a now-defunct book store in another town – be removed and placed in the garage for at least one week, to see if the clients noticed any difference in the activity.  His reasoning was that perhaps there was something attached to the armor, and therefore, removing it from the home may alleviate what the clients are experiencing.  The clients agreed to follow Trevor’s suggestion.

Conclusion

Data review and analysis is still ongoing.  Results of this investigation will be posted after the team has concluded the review and analysis and presented our findings directly to the clients.
