Event:  ghost box turns on by itself
Date:  Mar. 5, 2012
Time:  approx. 9pm
Location:  dining room

Roger reports that while he was home alone, sitting on the couch reading a book, he heard faint music coming from what he thought was the dining room. Rascal was sleeping beside him; Charlie was sleeping on the loveseat. Uncertain about where the music was coming from, he walked to the dining room to investigate. Roger stated that as he approached the table, the music became louder.

Approaching the china cabinet and the boxes beside it, Roger reports that the music then became even louder. He said it sounded as if it was coming from the box in which several office items are placed while the office is being renovated, but he couldn’t see how that could be. However, he opened the box anyway – and found that the ghost box was on. He shut it off and closed the box in which it and the other investigation equipment is contained. Roger reported that none of the other equipment was turned on.

1. The ghost box has an on/off button that must be pushed manually.
2. The box containing it and the other investigation equipment has been moved around several times since the equipment was placed in it for safekeeping while the office is being renovated, and no events of this fashion have occurred.
3. When the equipment was packed for safekeeping, it was packed in such a way that nothing could accidentally turn any of it on. Efforts to replicate the event have failed.
4. The ghost box has not turned itself on before or since this event.

Yesterday morning (Nov. 10), about ten minutes after my husband left for work, I left my office to use the powder room. The house was dark; all lights were off.  I returned to my office and closed the door (Charlie comes in and immediately heads for exposed cords, to chew on them).  About two hours later, I left my office to refresh my coffee, and I found the kitchen light on. I have no explanation for this event.

Yesterday evening, while my husband and I were watching a movie, I heard and felt a thump on the floor directly beneath my feet, both of which were on the floor. It was as though someone was downstairs knocking on the ceiling. I have no explanation for this event.

Last Saturday (Nov. 5), during a visit with a friend, that friend suddenly jumped in her chair – which faced the kitchen – pointed at the doorway between the hall and the kitchen, and exclaimed that she saw a tall shadow person standing there, peeking around at us. My back was to the kitchen, so I did not see this shadow figure myself, but based on the events that have been occurring, on the fact that my friend had no knowledge of what we’ve been experiencing, and on her intense reaction – she was visibly shaken, and very pale – I am inclined to believe her.

We have checked and re-checked the furnace, heating ducts, and refrigerator in attempts to identify the source of the bangs and knocks. We have also checked and re-checked the strapping around our plumbing pipes to make sure they have not come loose. Everything is as it should be – leaving us with no explanations as to the cause of the noises we’re hearing.

Thursday night, while I was out visiting my partner in her new home, my husband heard banging coming from my office. He was in the living room with both of the cats, who were sleeping. He described the sound as being like a book falling to the floor. He checked the office, but found nothing amiss.

Earlier Friday evening, just after laying down for a nap, I heard my name being called. I thought it was my husband, who was also in bed, so I responded by asking him what he wanted. When he did not reply, I turned to look at him. He was asleep.

Another event occurred only an hour ago, in my office. My husband was standing at the door talking to me, when I picked up the smell of brewing coffee. My husband also smelled it. At the time, there was no coffee brewing. In fact, the coffee machine had been off since about 10am.

The unexplained bangs, knocking, and name-calling are increasing. And after discussing it, both my husband and I note that the banging and knocking occurs when only one of us is either home or awake. The name-calling, however, is occurring regardless of whether or not we are both home/awake.
